We all remember Dr. Aur Billa as the pioneers of bringing wit and hilarity to Pakistani music. Jawad Bashir (Dr.) and Aiyaz. A. Kidwai (Billa) launched their first album ‘Greatest Hits’ in 90’s.
“When we started out, we were the pioneers,” Jawad tells. “There was a need for a bold step to incorporate satire in music. After a while, we saw that the industry had progressed and there were a lot of new bands so as a result, we thought there was no need for Dr Aur Billa.” He explains that they started off when there were very few bands and channels and it was difficult to make it on TV.
Recently Dr. Aur Billa had launched another single ‘Ab Kya Karun?’. Fans enjoyed ‘Ab Kya Karun’ as it was the continuation of their series of singles ‘No Love’ and ‘Yes Love’ from their previous albums. The video got viral on Facebook and received overwhelming response.
However, news is that Jawad has now decided to go solo. “Dr. Aur Billa created an image of fun music in mid 90’s and that’s what people liked about us. Things are different now”. Jawad explains reasons for this decision. “If we do experimentation under the same brand, our fans may not like it.”
Jawad says that he wants to experiment with different genres of music under his solo career and has come up with his first single ‘Dhoka’ which is a fusion of Dubstep and Rap. Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in South London, England. It emerged in the late 1990s as a development within a lineage of related styles such as 2-step garage, broken beat, drum and bass, jungle, dub and reggae.
‘Dhoka’ also features OMI (Umair Tariq) who has sung the Punjabi rap part. Audio track of ‘Dhoka’ has already been released on SoundCloud and Jawad plans to launch the video soon.
